A living lab for culture, imagination, and community
We are in the midst of shaping the future of de Helena. For Het Haags Helena Collectief, this is more than a question of bricks or redevelopment: it is an opportunity to demonstrate that urban development can take a different path. They develop a model in which buildings are not treated as private property, but as shared infrastructure for communities. A place where art, film, music, food and society come together; where collaboration, ownership, and connection generate new forms of value.
De Helena is a collective enterprise that creates space, both literally and figuratively. Room for other ways of seeing, hearing, experiencing, doing. Room for experimentation. A place that continuously evolves with its users and with the city around it. Not driven by profit, but by the ambition to strengthen culture, imagination and community. Makers and residents are the experts here; they understand the potential of their surroundings. De Helena offers The Hague an urban space it desires: open, innovative, diverse, and alive.
About EnergieKas
Energiekas is a cultural testsite that offers space for imagination, experimentation, and encounters at the intersection of art, climate, and science. In and around an urban rooftop greenhouse with a 360 view over the city, new ways of seeing, growing, making, building, and living are explored together. EnergieKas offers space to artists, designers, and makers for hands-on experimentation, programming, knowledge sharing, and connection. The aim is to inspire one another, to collectively imagine, test, and already experience possible futures. How might we reimagine the city and society?
