TROUBLEZONE - Frans van Hoek, Anka Hashin

Shooting Gallery by Frans van Hoek: a shooting gallery like one at a fair, but now in an art space. The target: stars arranged in the colors of the flags of all countries currently experiencing a large-scale conflict, as defined by ACLED (as countries with more than 10,000 victims, 2024). To be allowed to shoot, visitors donate €10 to a charity of their choice (in a conflict zone). The artwork is accompanied by a selection of contemporary rap music from all regions experiencing a large-scale conflict.

Anka Hashin presents recent work: landscapes as anti-worlds or anachronisms, inspired by her memories from the country of her youth, the Soviet Union. A superpower that no longer exists as such, evoking both admiration and fear for her – utopia and dystopia in one. The setting of her youth, her personal ’trouble zone’. The works reflect neither the present nor the past, places that have existed, places from an invented reality. No melancholy, rather possible answers from a raw past (or/and present).
